Maple Ridge is one of the most welcoming and diverse communities in all of the Lower Mainland. With a wide selection of affordable real estate options, Maple Ridge continues to grow and diversify. Part of the draw of this magnificent city is its welcoming and friendly neighbourhood feel. All members of the community strive to make Maple Ridge one of the most livable cities in the Greater Vancouver Area. Here is a brief list of some of the community events that bring Maple Ridge together.
Maple Ridge and neighbouring Pitt Meadows strive to provide residents with a wide selection of fun, colourful events and festivals throughout the year. These events and festivals aim at celebrating diversity as well as the area’s unique culture, history and heritage.
Pitt Meadows Air Show
Perhaps the largest festival happens in July in neighbouring Pitt Meadows. All of the attention shifts to the Pitt Meadows Regional Airport for the Pitt Meadows Air Show. This air show brings together international and local aviators who perform death defying and spectacular stunts. In addition to this performance, the Pitt Meadows Air Show also showcases a skydiving exhibition by the local based Pacific Sky Divers. The air show is also home to an antique car show, a wide selection of local food and drink vendors and amusement park rides. This festival offers something for everyone and is an all-ages event. Make sure to come and experience the Pitt Meadows Air Show first hand. You will not be disappointed!
Maple Ridge Jazz and Blues Festival
In August, Memorial Peace Park is transformed into a stage for some of the finest local and international jazz and blues talent. Some of the past headliners have included the Shuffle Demons, Will Campa and the Bill Coon Quartet. The Maple Ridge Jazz and Blues Festival is an all day, all-ages event. Tickets are available through the Maple Ridge Arts Centre and Theatre. Make sure to take in this one of a kind experience and support the arts!
Christmas in the Park
Every year, Maple Ridge brings Christmas to life for the young and old. Christmas in the Park is a great way to kick off the holiday season and a great excuse to get together with friends and family. The Christmas parade is one of the many highlights of this great family oriented event. In addition to a festive parade, Santa makes a special appearance and there are lots of great Christmas treats to enjoy, including hot chocolate. Come and help decorate Christmas trees or make your own special Christmas decorations. There is so much to do at the annual Christmas in the Park event, so bring your Christmas cheer and join us!
Bard on the Bandstand
During the summer, Shakespeare comes alive in Maple Ridge. Make sure to come out and see the local performances of some of William Shakespeare’s best known plays at Bard on the Bandstand. The plays are free and are sure to entertain. They are family friendly, so bring a chair or a blanket and come out to enjoy Maple Ridge’s rendition of William Shakespeare at Bard on the Bandstand.
Make sure to show your patriotic side and join the city in celebrating Canada Day. The party gets underway at Maple Ridge’s Memorial Park and includes great fun for the whole family. There are plenty of live music venues, singing, dancing, fun and food for all. Some of the highlights include a skateboard demonstration provided by Youth Services and floor hockey in the Greg Moore Youth Centre. The official flag-raising event gets underway at 12:30pm at the Memorial Park flagpole. Make sure to get out and celebrate Canada Day Maple Ridge style!
These are just a few of the many great community festivals and events that occur in Maple Ridge. Other notable events include the annual Maple Ridge Caribbean Street Festival, a touching Remembrance Day ceremony and the hugely popular Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Country Fest.
